Website Marketing Mistakes and how to avoid them (Part 2)
Marketing is very important in business. Even an essential marketing tool like putting up a website must also be marketed so that it can achieve its full potential in helping out a business. But mistakes in marketing a website can significantly hurt a business.
Here are some more mistakes that you should avoid in marketing your website:
Not putting links. Some people think that links are not important in building traffic. But the truth is, it is very important. If you do not have links to your site from other websites – especially if it is from competitors, your meta information will not be enough to generate traffic. Most search engines rank a webpage based on its popularity with its peers. The more sites that link to your page, the better it is for you as it will be perceived as popular. This will definitely boost your webpage’s ratings.
Haphazardly composed meta tags. Try to invest more time in putting your website’s meta tags in order. Meta tags give information to search engines about your website. It also serves the function of being a basic marketing tool that can be used to attract visitors to your site. Make sure that your meta tags are spelled correctly and always keep them relevant to what is contained in your website.
Page stickiness. A webpage’s design and marketing go hand in hand. When you attract the attention of visitors, it is a testament to the effectiveness of your traffic building plan and your web page’s good design. But you must also think about what else you can offer your visitors so that they will be encouraged to come back to your website. You have already expended a lot of time and resources to attract people that you need to think about how to hang on to them. One thing you can do is to conduct regular site updates as it will make you appear very active while also encouraging visitors to regularly check your website to look for new content.
Code clutter. The first thing search engine bots will do after visiting a site is to look at the meta information. After this they will scan the webpage for the first set of relevant text. Unfortunately, there are many websites that are littered with cluttered code, usually orphaned Javascripts, after the meta tags. These unimportant codes will only push your relevant text farther down the page, which would definitely affect your search engine ranking. You should hide the Javascript codes, or any other similar cods, in another file and just refer to it from the HTML.
Hiring dubious experts. Be wary about so-called site submission experts. Try to find out their backgrounds and what exactly they are offering before shelling out money. Be especially mindful of such claims a submitting your website to tens of thousands of search engines or guaranteeing you a top 20 ranking in major search engines. Reputable companies will help you optimise your webpage as well as give you advice on how to market your website to your target market.
